Pumpkin pickins

Well this weekend we finally went to get some pumpkins for the house (thanks again Nana and Papa!), and for our annual pumpkin carving contest. (to see last year's click here) Keith and Becky met us there so they could watch Sterling go nuts over these things! He gets so excited over the littlest things, but that's a good thing! (could I possibly say "thing" one more time!)
So enjoy the pictures!
He's not so sure about what we're doin here!
He's sitting on the pumpkin we are going to carve for the contest. This pumpkin was too cool, the eyes actually were spinning around! Pretty good balance there bud! Being goofy as could be...
...and then here he is about 3 minutes later with Nana and Papa:
**Cue "manic mode" as we like to call it**
He all of a sudden didn't want his picture taken anymore. This is him covering his face and running away from the camera. Are all three year olds like this for real!?! AHHH!! :)
Here is a picture of our 2 place winnings two years ago! (sorry so blurry. once again my camera is about to be thrown in the trash!)

Pet problems!

We are having pet issues at our house right now! And you would think that we must not keep a very good eye on our child, but that is so not the case! It's just that this little booger is getting quick and sneaky! So, I went to fix Sterling lunch today and just happen to see this out of the corner of my eye (Maria, you're gonna love this!):
Yeah, that would be the ENTIRE bottle of fish food dumped into the bowl at once!!! I, naturally, freaked out and hurried up and got some out before I decided,"oh wait, this would make for a great post!" First the dog, then the fish! What next Sterling!?! just some of the food I got out Poor Nemo! He's still alive though! I had Sterling tell Heath the story today of what he did to his fish and this is what he said,"Yeah, I put a wot of food in d'ere! It's going to kill him." Lovely.
Well, for those who are interested, Sweet Pea is doing a little better. She only got us up twice but for an hour at a time last night. (which she hasn't got us up once during the night, until now) But I think what happened was that she would forget about her leg while she was asleep and roll over and hurt it. So she would start yelping and we would think she had to potty. So we would get up and take her out...about 45 min later...nothing. We did that twice, and by the way, it's freezing outside at 2:30 and 6:00 in the morning! Just incase you were wondering! But other than that, she's been great!
We played in the backyard today for a little while and Sweet Pea came with. She is starting to learn how to walk with this thing. It's so pitiful and sad, but so funny at the same time because the thing is so huge!

So, I noticed her toes were starting to swell a little today, and it says on the sheet that if I noticed any swelling to take her in immediately. So off we go back to the vet.

She said it looked ok and that a little swelling is normal, but to keep an eye on it. She went ahead and re-wrapped it to make it a little looser. So off we go back home to eat and get some pain meds in her.

I'd just like to show you our little "routine" of feeding. You tell me if you think this dog is just a little pampered!

She gets baby food chicken because the vet said she may not eat and little dogs blood sugar can drop real low if they don't eat especially when there is something wrong...aka, a broken leg. This stuff is so stinkin (word intended) nasty!!! Now I remember why Sterling never ate this stuff. UGH! But she goes NUTS over it and gobbles it all up! Sterling says that is her cheese on top! haha he's my kid for sure! ;) There is her new pretty cast! Can you say pampered and spoiled just a little! Oh, she also gets her water dish brought to her as well!

3 yr old + 3 month old chihuahua= 2 hr vet visit

***Caution: If you are sensitive to puppies this might cause a little quiver in your lip and water in the eyes.***
Oh boy, where do I even begin!?!
Well, I took these pictures this evening in hopes of doing a post on our little "house guest" that we've had and how much fun Sterling has had with her so far. Well, here is little miss Sweet Pea, my mom's chihuahua that we are doggie sitting for a week. Enjoy the sweet pictures. (while they last!)
Look how cute she is! Can you say teeny-tiny!
Here comes the reason for this post. Get ready for it.
Yeah, so after I took these pictures I went back to the computer to download them, as I hear Sterling coming down the hallway, he gets to the doorway of the room I am in, and I hear it.
What is "it" you may ask?
The screaming pain of a 3 month, 3lb chihuahua. And when I say screaming, that really could be an understatement. Sterling had been carrying her back there (which he had NEVER done before. I think it's because right before we were having him hold her for the pics) and she fell out of his arms as he went to put her down. So, she didn't even fall very far, but she instantly put her leg up and would. not. stop. screaming. It was AWFUL!!! I immediately picked her up and didn't touch it. I thought her hip was just probably out of place since she fell probably a whole 6 inches...literally.
I couldn't even move the dog without her screaming. We didn't know what to do after about 3 min, so we called my mom. She said to take her to the vet.

PLEASE excuse the nastiness, I just got back from working out...yeah, great timing I know! See how she is baby-ing that back, right leg?

So, off we go at 6:30 to the vet thinking "all they are going to do is pop it back into place and we'll be good to go and we'll make out of there for hopefully under 500 bucks". HAHAHAHAHA

This is what happens when you are in a vets office for 2 hrs!

Are you ready for this!?!?!

Just in case you can't see it here's another one for ya: Can ya see it?!?

Yep folks, it is a BROKEN LEG!!!! Broke all the way through at an angle. Thankfully it only went through the big bone (can't remember if it's the tibia or fibia, whichever is the big one) but not the small. She said if it would have gone through the small one it would have been orthopedic surgery. Could you imagine!!??!

What dog gets a broken leg from falling about 6 inches. Apparently Sweet Pea does. NO WONDER she was screaming like she was. I felt so bad I wanted to cry. But if you think I felt bad, you should have seen Sterling. He knew he did it and he felt SO bad the whole night. Especially when she would scream. He even went and got his special blanket that he has to have out of his bed for her. He said,"Here mommy give this to Sweet Pea. It will make her feel better. I will make a bed for her with it." So sweet.

I just had to put this whole x-ray on there. Look how funny it looks!!
Look how sad this is...

She ended up having to knock her out to set the splint. How awful is this! But surprisingly we made out of there for only $200 (and I say "only" because we thought it was going to be about $500!) but she has to go back in a week to get it checked on. The reason we thought it was going to be so much is because we thought it was the vet ER, but it was just regular office hours (they stay open til 8!!) so it wasn't emergency pay! Sheesh!

This thing is bigger than she is!! Don't ask me how we are going to get her to potty now! Oh I know!! Every time she goes out we have to wrap it with press-n-seal wrap, give her baby food since she won't eat, so that she can take her pain medicine, (which we have to make 1/8 of the pill, pretty much some powder) oh and make sure she doesn't chew on it, hold her most of the time, and check for swelling at all times.

Woo hoo, this should be a fun 3 more days! Saturday won't get here quick enough!

I don't wanna hear it, I just wanna see it

Yesterday was fire day at school. We had a few firefighters come give a little talk to the kids. They showed them how they put the gear on and how it's still the same person even with the big 'ol suit and oxygen tank on. (so they won't be scared if they ever have to experience that) Great things to learn.
Wanna know how my child spent most of the time while they were talking? Take a look....
bottom left corner
Show that appreciation to our fellow fire fighters Sterling!
Then he snapped out of it when it was time to get up and give the guy a high-five! So off he goes...
Firetruck time!! Can you pick him out of the crowd? Yeah, the one with the very serious look on his face like he is loving every min of this...yep, that's my kid!
Oh boy, let's explore!
I think he would make a great fire fighter! :) He'd definitely be strong enough, that's for sure!

on the outside looking in

We thought the transition in gymnastics from the parent-child class to the big kid class (really it's only 3-4 year olds) was going to be an easy one. Well, Sterling proved us wrong on that one!
As soon as we got there, he went right in and sat on the mat and started to participate. I guess he took one look around and noticed we weren't in there with him and that was the end of that 30 second big boy class!
I had to go in there with him when all the other parents were on the outside looking in...watching me, and my child, who will absolutely not cooperate! They were probably looking at him like, "what a little brat!" This is where he stood for the first 15 min of class...
He just wanted to watch and would not step even a big toe on the red mat!
So, after about 15 min of being a toot, the teacher started an exercise...balancing the bean bag on a stick. Now in order to get that stick and bean bag, meant he had to run all the way across the big red mat. Well, he did run to get them but ran straight back to the side. *Mind you, all the other kids were sitting in a circle and listening to what they were told to do.* Here is my child...

On the side lines, still not getting that toe on the mat!

Then it's time to start another exercise. Will he get on the mat this time?

Yep, but right on the edge and right beside me! Sterling did a really good forward roll (I'm learning something!) over the stick!

So what about another? Does he feel good enough for me to leave and him actually participate?

Nope.

But he did go in the middle for about 2 min. then it was straight back to me. Hey, we're gettin somewhere here!

Then it was "stations" time. Oh boy what's he gonna do?

The child went crazy (in a good way, this is his favorite part) at the stations, but guess who wouldn't let the teacher even lay a finger on him to help?

That would be my child.

So, here's to hoping next week will be better and I can be one of those parents on the outside looking in!

My "Test"

I was finally get caught up on all my blogs that I have been missing out on today (Sheesh it's been forever!) and when I went to Amy's I saw that she had taken a personality/career test. Since I like doing that kind of stuff, I decided to take it just to see what it says, since I don't have a set "career".
The personality section was exact and right on. Crazy how that works! But I'm not so sure about the whole interior decorator thing! I wish!
Your personality type: Quiet, kind and conscientious. Can be depended on to follow through. Usually puts the needs of others above their own needs. Stable and practical, they value security and traditions. Well-developed sense of space and function. Rich inner world of observations about people. (crazy because that is #62 on my previous blog) Extremely perceptive of other's feelings. Interested in serving others.
Careers that could fit you includes: Interior decorators (in my dreams!), designers, nurses, administrators, managers, secretaries, child care/early childhood development, social work, counselors, paralegals, clergy, office managers, shopkeepers, bookkeepers, homemakers, gardeners, clerical supervisors, curators, family practice physicians, health service workers, librarians, medical technologists, typists.

If you want to take the test ,you can take it here and tell me if it was accurate or not for you!

Happy Monday!

101 Random/Weird things about yours truly

Wow I have been incognito for a while. Sorry to all my blog friends! I haven't even been on the computer in days! I really feel lost! I can't wait to catch up on everyone's lives!
So, I promise, to everyone that has tagged me in some sort of post, I am not ignoring you!! I have been super busy and this post has actually been in the works for a month. So I figure instead of doing a million and one posts from all the ones I have been tagged from (which I love being tagged to do things, so you can do it again sometime I really don't mind!) I would just go ahead and finish this one and count it as my tagged ones! Does that make any sense!?! :) So here we go... 101 random/weird things that you probably don't really care to know about me!
1.) Growing up I always said I wanted 10 kids. And we still only have one, but not by choice! #2 will be in the works soon! and #3 will probably be the last!
2.) I didn't meet my biological father until I was 18. Long story!
3.) Even though I didn't know my dad, the more and more I get to know him now, it is so interesting to see traits that are hereditary versus learned. For example, we both do not like change!!
4.) I was almost 12 when my only brother was born. (we have different fathers)
5.) I was in the room, standing next to the doctor, while he performed the c-section on my mom delivering my brother.
6.) That was the moment I knew, for sure, that I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. Has never changed and never will.
7.) I think witnessing the birth of a baby is the closest thing to a miracle here on earth.
8.) I totally believe that there are angels sent to earth in human form. Just the thought sends warming goosebumps all over.
9.) I had the same dog, Cookie, from the time I was 5 going into kindergarten, to the time I was 19 and in my freshman year of college.
10.)I KNOW God sent that dog to me as my guardian angel. I think she was put in my life to protect my spirit and to give me an "earthly" angel. I had a really rough childhood and she was there the entire time for me, she protected my heart. I still miss her.
11.) This is another one of those weird things, I have a picture of her under my visor on the drivers side of my car.
12.) Even though I have always known I wanted to be a nurse, my very first desire was to be a Mommy.
13.) I was the first person in our family, including his dad, that saw and held my brother for the first time.
14.) The nurses let me go back to the nursery to get him all cleaned up. I gave him his first bath.
15.) I was born with curly hair lest I am just now learning to love it.
16.) I have a bad habit of twirling my hair around my fingers. (you know, the dumb blonde look) but my mom says I have done it since I was a baby. It is a comfort for me.
17.) I grew up in a conservative Church of Christ church but yet I have no problem with drinking or dancing. How did that happen!?!
18.) I think I am the only little girl alive that didn't take dance classes when they were little.
19.) However, I LOVE to dance and honestly, is the only thing that I am really talented at.
20.) I graduated high school the best year ever...2000! 21.) When I see/think of teenagers, I sometimes always feel like I am their age. It doesn't seem like it's ben that long since I was their age, until they start calling me "ma'am" and then I snap out of that dream!

22.) I can't spell yet English was my best subject in school.

23.) Well I take that back, Science was!

24.) I took all the hardest classes my senior year of high school, but that was my best GPA year!

25.) I love learning/knowing how the human body works.

26.) Since I was a little girl I have always had a little "life schedule". 27.) The first part of that "schedule" was to be 21 when I got married and to have my first child by the age of 24.

28.) I got married at 21 and had Sterling when I was almost 23.

29.) The next part of that "life schedule" will be to be done having kids by 30! We better get busy on that goal!

30.) My birthday is a few days after New Years. Therefore, I always got the shaft end of the deal on gifts because everyone is broke from Christmas!

31.) I cried on my 25th birthday.

32.) I can not read a map to save my life! (that's actually really embarrassing to admit!)

33.) Ok, I'm pretty sure I have a little touch of OCD. I can not take the first item off of the shelf. If it is the last one left, most of the time, I will wait until I come back when there is more! Crazy I know!

34.) The majority of the time you will see me driving a vehicle. I have to be the one in control of the driving. I think it goes along with the OCD thing.

35.) Last OCD item, I have to smell and touch almost everything. It's annoying! Just a bad habit maybe?

36.) Ok, I can not stand that gunk that forms on lotion, soap, or any kind of thing like that. If you ever have to use anything like that of mine, you will never have that gunk built up on it...ocd??!!

37.) I get very bad car sick. That's another reason why I have to drive almost everywhere I go.

38.) I have benign positional vertigo . I HATE it!

39.) I have never been skydiving and never intend to either!

40.) I am not an outdoor-sie girl, but not a girly girl either. Somewhere in the middle I guess.

41.) I am a list maker. I made a list for this post as a matter of fact! I really am lost without a list.

42.) One of my worst qualities (I think at least) is that I am not a very punctual person. I try my best to be, but most of the time, I'm late. Heath is the same way, so we don't make for a good team on that one!

43.) I am a constant worrier. Something that I desperately need to work on. (something Heath tells me almost daily!) But have been getting better since the whole job situation.

44.) I am a very picky eater.

45.) I despise liver. UGH!!

46.) I LOVE cheese! It is in most recipes that I cook.

47.) I consume at least one string cheese a day! (hey, at least it's the light version!)

48.) I have a very small bladder. It's inherited!

49.) Since I was pregnant I have got up at least once during the night to go pee. I have even tried not drinking way before I go to bed, but that doesn't matter!

50.) I love to cook, but only when I feel like it!

51.) My favorite dessert, by far, is a warm brownie with ice cream and chocolate syrup. Yummy!

52.)Heath and I share a very strong desire to "flip" a house. Every time we watch one of those shows we will go on and on about what we would do with a house. It's so fun!
53.) I am the furthest thing from a morning person you will ever get! I could stay up all night if you wanted me to, but get me up early in the morning and we will have a problem! I've been like that since I was little.
54.) I am one of those people who require sleep. I get physically sick if I go a few days in a row without enough sleep. People don't believe me, but it's one of those weird things.
55.) I have a very large fear of crickets!! (I just got shivers)
56.) I took 3 years of piano when I was young and was told I was exceptionally good at it. Too bad I can only remember how to play one song and couldn't read sheet music again to save my life!
57.) There is nothing more wonderful to my ears than to hear Sterling laugh one of those big-bellied laughs...just makes me have to chuckle right along with him.
58.)I laugh all the time. Sometimes at the dumbest things.
59.) Before Sterling, I used to pray daily for twins. I hope God, just so happens, to forget about those little prayers!
60.) I love all of my in-laws. (sisters and brothers included) I feel I have been so blessed by having each and every one of them in my life. (and nobody could ever ask for a better mother and father in law!)
61.) I love the smell of plastic! Nothing beats the smell of a freshly opened shower curtain liner! Mmmm... =) (told you it's weird things!)
62.)I have a very high intuition of people. The first time I meet someone I can, 9 times out of 10, pick up on if I am going to get along with that person, or not. Or if that person is a genuine person. I think it has Heath a little dumbfounded!
63.) I worry too much about what people think of me. I am pretty sure this is a quality Heath gets frustrated at me with. I can't help it though!!
64.)The qualities that I dislike most in someone is lying and controlling.
65.) The qualities I like the most in someone is patience and understanding.
66) I tend to be on the argumentative side. One of my bad qualities.
67.) I am a MAJOR visual learner! It drives Heath crazy because he will try to describe something to me and I will always tell him he has to either show it to me or draw it for me.
68.) I am a good multi-task-er! (I think you have to be when you are a mom)
69.) I tend to be very quiet in a large group of people, but I tend to do most of the talking when I am one-on-one with someone.
70.) I am not good at confrontation. I can't think of what to say on the spot, but when it's all over I can think of a million things to say. Drives me crazy!
71.) My "drink" of choice used to be caramel apple martinis.
72.) Lately my "drink" of choice has been just regular margaritas! (in fact I am enjoying one as I type...yummy!)
73.) Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a germ-a-phob! But I have to admit that I am getting a little bit better. I don't wipe off the tables with disinfecting wipes anymore when we go out to eat!
74.) As we all know from a previous blog this spring, I just had my first real pedicure. Ahh....
75.) I have never been to New York. Not really interested in going either. (women, you can pick your jaws up off the floor now! =) )
76.) I have an earring and jacket fetish! 77.) My favorite breed of dog are miniature dachshunds. Oh, they are so cute, but oh so stubborn!! 78.) I have never had surgery. 79.) I have had two skin cancer scares from two little freckles on my shoulder. But they both turned out negative...thank God!!
80.) I used to have 20/10 vision (that is better than perfect for those that don't know). However, I haven't been to the eye doctor since I was 8 (um, that is about 18 years ago!) so that has possibly changed!
81.) I am not a big shopper.
82.) However, I could spend ALL DAY in Hobby Lobby if I could and spend a small fortune while I was at it!! I just found out they have a credit card, and I got one! Uh-oh!
83.) I am very hot natured. When I go to bed Heath can't even be touching me because I get too hot. I have to have my space! (which is bad because he is a cuddler)
84.) I have about 13 cavities that still need to be filled.
85.) I love to work out. Lifting weights is my favorite!
86.) I lived in California for 7 years and have never been to San Fransisco.
87.) I had a job when I was 5-12 years old delivering Avon books to certain people in our neighborhood for a lady. My mom taught me to save that money in the bank. I bought my first car when I was 16 with the money I have saved over the years.
88.) I am good with money.
89.) I LOVE going garage saling!! My mom and I used to get up and go every Saturday morning when I was little. I hated it then, but appreciate it now!
90.) It is a must to separate all my laundry according to color categories. Dark, lights, med... a little anal on that one!
91.) I love to mow and edge the yard. Heath and I have a yard fetish actually.
92.) I don't have that great of a memory, but I remember the dates of things well. Weird!
93.) I am horrible at sports...no skills what-so-ever!! 94.) I am a reality tv junkie. Some of my favs are The Biggest Loser, American Idol, and the Hills. 95.)The only sport that I care to watch is college football. (Go Hogs!) 96.) I love going to rodeo's with Heath! 97.) As we all know, I am completely computer illiterate. Actually computers on very high up on the list of things that I REALLY dislike!!
98.) I wish they had college reunions instead of high school. Oh, that would be so much fun!
99.) I am one of those people who look nothing like their baby pictures.
100.) My favorite flower is a tulip, but calla lilies run a close 2nd.
101.) I used to despise my mom for naming me Lane, but now it will be used in one of our future children's name.
There are about a hundred more I could write, but I will spare you. You're welcome! And if you made it to the end, I am impressed anyway! :)
